ABOUT THIS MAGIC POSTER:
Known as "New Illusions Original Secrets", this 1910 poster
advertised Servais Le Roy Co., supplier of illusions and
stage scenery to the magic stars of the day.
Printed by Friedlander, the Tiffany of printers,
this poster hangs in
the front hallway of our home.
Servais LeRoy was a successful and accomplished illusionist
who formed a long-running stage partnership with his wife Mary Ann Ford (aka Talma) and their colleague Leon Bosco.
They named their act "The Comedians de Mephisto Co" but they were much better known as Le Roy, Talma & Bosco.
Le Roy is credited with devising
the Asrah Levitation illusion, among
other famous effects, which he and Talma first performed in London in 1914.
He was equally successful for his magic inventions and materials
which
he sold to "competitors" such as DeBiere, Goldin, Chung Ling Soo
and others, pictured in the poster.
Servais Le Roy Co. closed its doors in 1915 and turned its machinery
to making supplies for England's World War I efforts.
