DAVID LUSTIG - "LA VELLMA"
(September 4, 1893- September 30, 1977)
La
Vellma was the professional name used by David Lustig,
a stage magician specializing in mentalism.
He was also manager for several vaudeville magic acts.
He was a technical adviser to Dunninger, devising many of the "tests" that Dunninger used on radio and TV shows.
He authored Dunninger's Master Methods of Hypnotism" (1923).
Later in his life he worked as a publicity specialist for Columbia Pictures, setting up tours and interviews for their movie stars.
He was. no doubt, an expert in effective stage performance.
In a M.U.M. Magazine article, he shared these five tips
that are still relevant
to us as performers today:
Hard work, constant practice and originality
are three great pointers toward success.
Do your best at one and all times.
You never know who may be in the audience.
Don't "hammer" your fellow
professional.
He may show you a few things you don't know.
Don't tell your audience how good you are.
Let them judge for themselves.
Magicians are many; entertainers are few.
