JANUARY 23, 1982!
Our 41st wedding anniversary- already!
Married secretly during a blizzard, with only immediate family in
attendance,
we wanted no fuss, no formalities, and no traditional things.
Jackie wore a red dress designed by her famous employer,
and knee-high black boots.
I wore a vintage 1930's three-piece suit and my father's tie pin.
Yes, that's our official "wedding photo"!
As performers, we knew
literally thousands of people
who would have wanted to be invited.
So as not to slight anyone, we told NO ONE about the upcoming wedding.
A family friend (a priest) married us,
Jackie carried no flowers (she is allergic to the smell),
and we walked down the aisle in an empty church
to my piano rendition of the "Wedding March"
I had recorded earlier that morning into a pocket dictation machine.
Very untraditional and very relaxed.
We even forgot to bring a camera, so our priest ran back to his residence
next to the church and grabbed HIS camera!
Alas, those
photos are lost to time.
Afterwards, we stopped at a tiny out-of-the-way diner,
feasted on hot turkey sandwiches and listened to
"The Anniversary Waltz" played for us by the waitress on the juke box.
Then home we went to get ready to go back out on the road on tour.
Gradually we told people about the wedding,
though I think there are probably some friends who NEVER found out!
P.S.-
Yes, of course those are magic posters on the wall behind us!
Above us is Amazing Randi, and Doug Henning is to Peter's left.
We still have the posters!
